The date palm is one of the few plants able to survive in the desert’s inhospitable climate (very hot during the day, and cold at night). Still today, in the Near-East, Middle East, and North Africa, although their diets have become diversified, dates continue to play an important role. Nearly 90% of the production is consumed locally.
